Introduction

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is delighted to have been selected by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) to be a Best Practice Spotlight Organization Candidate. This designation indicates that the Thunder Bay District Health Unit has entered into a 3 year partnership with Registered Nursing Association of Ontario (RNAO) to implement and evaluate three best practice guidelines into the work practice and disseminate the lessons learned with other health care facilities. The purpose for implementing best practice guidelines is to deliver evidence based health care in an efficient manner to enhance patient care ultimately resulting in positive health outcomes.  The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is 1 of 12 Best Practice Spotlight Candidates in Ontario along with the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre.

Once the Thunder Bay District Health Unit has successfully completed the three year partnership with RNAO, it will graduate to become a Best Practice Spotlight Organization Delegate. This designation allows the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to be recognized for their continuous effort to disseminate, implement and evaluate RNAO’s BPGs; thereby building on the collaborative work already completed during their initial three-year contract with RNAO. The designation also illustrates that the staff of the TBDHU are enhancing the health-care delivery system for the citizens of Thunder Bay making a positive impact on patient care in the community.
