HEALTH UNIT RE-DESIGNATED BABY-FRIENDLY
Recommendation 10 of the RNAO Breastfeeding Best Practice Guidelines advises "practice settings/organizations should work towards Baby-Friendly Initiative designation as part of a comprehensive plan towards improving breastfeeding outcomes."
In June of 2011, the Health Unit was successfully re-designated as "Baby-Friendly" by the Breastfeeding Committee for Canada. As a result, the Health Unit has successfully completed Recommendation 10.

The purpose of this guideline is to improve breastfeeding outcomes for mothers and infants, to assist practitioners to apply the best available evidence to clinical decisions and to promote the responsible use of health care resources.
Recommendations of this guideline are intended to provide direction to practicing nurses in all care settings (institutional and community) in promoting successful and enjoyable breastfeeding experiences.
