The effects of pesticide use on human health are complex and unclear but some links to illness do exist.
Because evidence shows pesticide use may cause harm to humans, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit supports the "precautionary principle" on the use of pesticides and:
- recommends that the public avoid exposure to pesticides, and
- encourages communities to consider not using pesticides where possible.
This precautionary principle on the use of pesticides is in agreement with the Ontario Public Health Association and the Ontario College of Family Physicians.
