Preschool Communication Services @ TBDHU

A Speech-Language Pathologist is a communication specialist who is trained to prevent, identify and treat disorders of speech (articulation), language, voice, and fluency (stuttering).

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit also employs Communicative Disorder Assistants.  This is a trained professional who carries out therapy programs that have been developed by the the Speech-Language Pathologist. 

Preschool Communication Services at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit provides speech/language services to preschoolers living in the City and District of Thunder Bay. Branch offices are located in Nipigon, Geraldton and Marathon.

Hearing Screening

St. Joseph's Care Group provides complete audiological services for people in outlying districts of Thunder Bay, from Health Unit Branch offices in Marathon and Geraldton. The following services are provided, free of charge, by a qualified Audiologist:

• hearing assessments
• central auditory processing evaluations
• hearing aid evaluations and prescriptions
• counseling and recommendations
• information about hearing and hearing loss
