So you're interested in promoting healthy eating in your workplace - here are some ideas on how we can help you get started:

Learn more…

  • Promote events, resources and messages in prominent locations: front entrance, reception areas, by the elevators, bulletin boards, coffee rooms, restrooms. Post our monthly Healthy Eating Newsletter.
  • Ask for our "5 to 10 a Day Veggies and Fruit" or "Colour Your Plate" posters, related pamphlets and display.
  • Book a Coronary Risk Profile session with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
  • Book a workshop on Healthy Eating, Healthy Weights or the new Food Labels or you can borrow a video from our library.
  • Check out the factsheets by clicking on the icon to the left of your screen.

Learn how…

  • Take the Veggie and Fruit Challenge - offer prizes
  • Offer taste tests of healthy food items or hold raffles related to the purchase of targeted food items in your cafeteria.
  • Provide point of purchase information for healthy food items sold in your cafeteria or lunchroom.
  • Book a workshop on Healthy Eating, Healthy Weights or the new Food Labels - or you can borrow a video from our library.

Support your Healthy Workplace…

  • Apply for an Eat Smart Cafeteria Award and get free advice and promotional items for making yours a healthy cafeteria.
  • Ensure availability of healthy food and beverage choices in cafeterias, lunchrooms, vending machines and at business meetings/functions for employees working all shifts. Check out this factsheet for vending machine ideas
  • Provide healthy food and beverage choices at comparable or lower prices compared to other choices.
  • Provide an attractive eating area, with a refrigerator and microwave to allow employees to bring their own lunch.

Make it Policy…

  • Establish a policy that healthy food choices will be offered at catered business meetings/functions, and that healthy choices will be offered in the cafeteria and vending machines.
