Community Food Advisors


Trained volunteer Community Food Advisors are ready and able to promote safe and nutritious food selection, preparation and storage to groups in the Thunder Bay area.

Who are Community Food Advisors?

We are experienced food shoppers and cooks who have successfully completed a government sponsored training program on food safety and nutrition, as well as food selection, preparation, preserving and storage.

Community Food Advisors are volunteers, providing information and resources to the public in Thunder Bay and the surrounding townships. Services are free but groups may be asked to pay for any food or supplies purchased for programs.

The Goal of the Community Food Advisor Program

To improve and promote safe and nutritious food selection, preparation and storage practices in Ontario by increasing individual and group access to reliable information and education.

What can a CFA do for you?

  • Give workshops or presentations
  • Conduct cooking classes or food demonstrations
  • Organize displays at shopping malls, fairs, libraries and other community locations
  • Help your group plan activities related to food and nutrition

Who can access a Community Food Advisor?

  • Children and youth groups
  • Daycare centres
  • Special needs groups
  • Church groups
  • Seniors’ organizations
  • Social action groups
