FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 31, 2006
Officials at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and St. Joseph's Care Group have lifted restrictions in the Bethammi Nursing Home section of St. Joseph's Heritage. Over the course of the 18 day outbreak, 56 residents and 36 staff fell ill with gastrointestinal symptoms.
Visitors and volunteers are now welcomed. Admissions, discharges and transfers will resume.
Because residents of long-term care facilities are at higher risk of becoming ill, officials would therefore like to remind family members to delay visiting long-term care residents if they are feeling unwell.
No other facilities are currently affected by outbreaks in the Thunder Bay District.
