March 8, 2007 - Officials at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit are concerned with reports of an Influenza outbreak at the Chartwell Select Retirement Home on Arundel Street.
The Health Unit reconfirms that the investigation at the Chartwell Select Retirement Home comes as a result of residents experiencing enteric-like symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. This is not to be confused with Influenza, which would be of a respiratory nature.
To contain the illness, Chartwell has closed the facility to visitors.
Enteric illness is also known as gastrointestinal illness and involves symptoms of the stomach and digestive system.
Thunder Bay District Health Unit would like to remind residents of the importance of staying home if you are ill and the value of regular handwashing to stop the spread of viruses during this season.
