Monday, October 22, 2007 - Flu clinics begin in the District of Thunder Bay today with Geraldton’s Community Complex hosting the first of the season from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. The first clinic in the City of Thunder Bay is taking place tomorrow at Castlegreen Community Centre from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Influenza is the number one cause of hospitalization and death in Canada for an infectious disease. That is why the Ontario government has made populations who are at high risk for getting the flu – seniors and those with chronic medical conditions – a priority for getting the flu shot.
Health care workers, ambulance, police and fire staff are among the other priority groups encouraged to get the flu vaccination because they often come in contact with people who are at high risk for complications from the flu and for spreading the disease.
Flu clinics continue throughout the District of Thunder Bay to December 19th. The flu clinic schedule is available on the Health Unit’s website (tbdhu.com/flu) or by calling the Flu Line at 624-9082.
The Health Unit reminds the public the flu shot is not available at their Balmoral site. This site has been replaced by a regularly scheduled flu clinic to be held every Wednesday at the Evangel Church at 1260 Balmoral Street from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.
