Swimming Advisory Issued for Boulevard Lake's Sunnyside Beach. Advisory Lifted from Main Beach.

August 21, 2008 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has placed Boulevard Lake’s Sunnyside Beach under a swimming advisory.

Water quality tests of Sunnyside Beach indicate higher than acceptable E. coli bacteria levels. High E. coli levels pose possible risks to bathers. These risks include a variety of skin, eye, nose and throat infections, and stomach illnesses.

Warning signs about the hazards of swimming at Sunnyside Beach are being posted by the City.

The swimming advisory for Boulevard Lake’s Main Beach that began on August 12, 2008, has been lifted. Water quality tests indicate bacteria levels are now at acceptable levels for swimming.

All other City beaches are open at this time.

Public Health Inspectors regularly test beaches in the District of Thunder Bay from mid June to the end of August. Updates of beach water quality can be found on the Health Unit website at tbdhu.com.
