The August 2008 recall has linked meat products manufactured at one Toronto Maple Leaf manufacturing plant with an outbreak of Listeriosis.
Listeriosis is a rare food borne disease caused by a strain of the bacteria called listeria.
Those at highest risk for developing listeriosis iinclude:
- pregnant women
- the elderly
- people with weakened immune systems
Symptoms include:
- vomiting
- nausea
- cramps
- diarrhea
- severe headache
- constipation
- persistent fever
