Deer Ticks Are Here. Avoid Deer Ticks and Avoid Lyme Disease.

June 23, 2008 - Since April 30th of this year, at least one tick per day has been brought into the Health Unit for identification. The vast majority of these ticks are harmless dog ticks (also known as wood ticks), however, some are being identified as deer ticks: the species that can spread Lyme disease. Read more >>

Boiling Well Water Recommended

June 6, 2008 - Due to the heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding that may lead to the contamination of well water, the Health Unit is strongly advising residents and businesses in any areas affected by today’s flooding and high water levels to bring well water to a rolling boil for one minute before consumption. Illness Investigation by Health Unit

June 5, 2008 - The Health Unit is investigating a gastrointestinal illness that has affected twenty-six (26) tree planters working in Greenstone. The illness is confined to those working at the tree planting operation. Read more >>

Tobacco Powerwalls a Thing of the Past

June 4, 2008 - As of Saturday, May 31st, 2008, there was a new look in retail establishments as the second stage of the Smoke Free Ontario Act came into place, banning tobacco displays from retail outlets. Gone are the large presentations of tobacco behind the counter (powerwalls) and local retailers have been very creative in their approach to the ban. Read more >>
