THUNDER BAY - Officials at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital have declared an outbreak of a gastrointestinal illness in the Extended Care Unit of the facility.  

All admissions, transfers, discharges, visitation and social activities for this unit have been cancelled until further notice.

Relatives and friends of residents may call the Hospital’s nursing station for more information.

The Health Unit reminds the public to prevent getting and spreading infections by:

• washing your hands frequently, for at least 15 seconds with soap and warm water, or by using a hand sanitizer
• covering your coughs and sneezes by sneezing and coughing into your sleeve (not your hands); and
• staying at home if you are ill to avoid spreading infections to others.
