March 17, 2008 - Officials at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and Dawson Court Home for the Aged on Algoma Street have declared a respiratory outbreak on the One South nursing unit of the long term care home.
The One South nursing unit is now closed to visitors, and all transfers, admissions and discharges have been restricted.
All other floors of Dawson Court are still open.
Relatives and friends of residents may call the long term care home for more information.
The Health Unit reminds the public to prevent getting and spreading infections by:
- washing your hands frequently, for at least 15 seconds with soap and warm water, or by using a hand sanitizer;
- coughing and sneezing into your sleeve (not your hands); and
- staying at home if you are ill to avoid spreading infections to others.
