March 18, 2008 - Officials at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and Pioneer Ridge have declared a facility-wide outbreak of an enteric illness in the long term care home. 

Pioneer Ridge is now closed to visitors, and all transfers, admissions and discharges have been restricted.   

Relatives and friends of residents may call the long term care home for more information.

The Health Unit reminds the public to prevent getting and spreading infections by: 

• washing your hands frequently, for at least 15 seconds with soap and warm water, or by using a hand sanitizer;
• coughing and sneezing into your sleeve (not your hands); and
• staying at home if you are ill to avoid spreading infections to others.
