Local Woman Wins Mountain Bike Co-sponsored by Tobacco Free Thunder Bay and Cyclepath
THUNDER BAY – Shelley Gross, a local winner in the Driven to Quit Challenge, was excited to hear that she had won the bike after going smoke-free for the month of March and is looking forward to riding it home if the weather cooperates.
“My son and myself are both very active. I feel like I’ve won twice!” remarked Ms. Gross. She remains smoke-free and is happy to have quit.
Four additional prizes have also been awarded locally. The winners of $100 restaurant gift certificates are: Tommy Sanderson, Danuta Wasik-Cofala, Nick Temple and Judy Kashuba. Thanks to the Keg Steakhouse & Bar, Bistro One, Caribou Restaurant & Wine Bar and Armando’s Fine Italian Cuisine for their continued support. These local prizes were coordinated through Tobacco Free Thunder Bay in addition to the provincial prizes.
Six hundred and seventy-seven adults in the District of Thunder Bay registered to quit their tobacco use for March in the province-wide Driven to Quit Smoking Challenge. The contest is in its eighth year and this is the highest number of participants so far. The contest was announced in January during National Non-Smoking Week. Contestants committed to stay tobacco-free for the month of March to be eligible to win.
The Driven to Quit Challenge is a smoking-cessation promotional initiative managed by the Canadian Cancer Society, with funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion and prize support from McNeil Consumer Healthcare.
