Respiratory Outbreak at Thunder Bay Interim Long Term Care Facility

November 13, 2008 - Officials at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and Thunder Bay Interim Long Term Care have declared a facility-wide outbreak of a respiratory illness at the facility on James Street South.

All admissions, transfers, discharges, and social activities have been cancelled, and visitation is restricted until further notice.

Relatives and friends of residents may call the facility’s nursing station for more information.

The Health Unit reminds the public to prevent getting and spreading infections by:

  • covering your cough/sneeze with a tissue; if you don’t have a tissue, cough/sneeze into your sleeve;
  • getting rid of all used tissues right away;
  • making sure all immunizations are up-to-date, including the annual flu shot
  • washing your hands frequently, for at least 15 seconds with soap and warm water, or by using a hand sanitizer; and
  • staying at home if you are ill to avoid spreading infections to others.

- END -
