Outbreak in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

March 5 - Officials at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and the Health Unit have declared an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Rotavirus has been identified at the cause of the outbreak. Visitor restrictions are in place for the NICU.

The Health Unit reminds you to prevent getting and spreading infections by:

  • washing your hands frequently, for at least 15 seconds with soap and warm water, or by using a hand sanitizer.
  • staying at home if you are ill to avoid spreading infections to others in both the acute care and long-term care areas of the hospital.
