New cases of H1N1 Flu Virus
Three new cases of the H1N1 flu virus have been confirmed in the Thunder Bay District. One case involved a child from an outlying community, and two (an adult and a child) were from the Thunder Bay area. All three have recovered.
H1N1 Confirmed Case Summary at October 16, 2009:
- Thunder Bay District, 14 cases
- Ontario = 387 hospitalized cases, 25 deaths
- Canada = 1504 hospitalized cases, 80 deaths
There has also been an increase of influenza-like-illness in some hospitals in our district.
Canadian Government Issues H1N1 Guide
The Government of Canada has published a comprehensive preparedness guide to provide Canadians with information about the pandemic H1N1 flu virus, steps they can take to protect themselves and what to do if they or their family members, get sick. - How to care for someone who is sick with H1N1 flu

- Planning ahead so that you are ready in case you or someone in your family gets sick
- Canada’s Pandemic Preparedness Plan
- How to get help in your community if you get sick
The guide also wants to assure people that:
- Individuals can play an active role in staying healthy and preventing the spread of the H1N1 flu virus.
- The federal government is committed to ensuring Canadians have the information they need to make the right decisions for themselves and for their families.
- There is an enormous amount of information available to Canadians about the H1N1 flu virus through the media, the Internet and many other sources, so they hope this guide offers the basic information Canadians need to know as the fall flu season approaches.

H1N1 Vaccine Details Expected Soon
Next week we are expecting an announcement on when the H1N1 vaccine will be available for our clinics and dosage information (e.g. number of shots required). We also anticipate updated information regarding pregnant women and new guidance documents.
