April 8, 2010 - Officials at the Health Unit and the Chartwell Select Thunder Bay are investigating several cases of gastrointestinal illness in the retirement home, located at 770 Arundel Street.

In order to contain this illness, family and friends are asked to limit visits to the retirement home.  Family and friends can call Chartwell Select at 343-0373 if they would like more information about visiting a family member. 

The Health Unit reminds the public to prevent getting and spreading infections by:

• washing hands often for at least 15 seconds with soap and warm water, or by using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the upper sleeve.
• staying at home when ill to avoid spreading infections to others.
