Safety Resource for Classroom

Schools and teachers play a key role in the prevention of injuries and substance abuse among youth.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is eager to help schools deliver the drug free message. A variety of resources, including videos, books and teacher kits are available through the lending library. Contact Barb Murray for more information.

The "Teen Files" video series is one of a variety of excellent tools on hand to promote healthy and drug-free choices for youth.

ACTION Program

The ACTION program is designed to assist educators to promote the health of grade seven and eight students by resisting the three most commonly used drugs by Ontario teenagers.

Last year, the ACTION program was revised to include an activity kit and web site. Both elements demonstrate links with the Ontario Health and Physical Education Curriculum learning expectations for grades seven and eight.

The ACTION program is a free resource for teachers and community action groups who are looking for ideas to help youth make responsible and healthy choices for life.

Bring the ACTION program to your students! Look for the ACTION program in your school’s resource library or visit ACTION online at the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association web site

On-Line Lesson Plans

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health has developed a series of drug education lesson plans in both French and English to support teachers in their substance use prevention programs. These lesson plans meet the new Grade One –Ten Ontario Health and Physical Education Curriculum.

Visit the CAMH web site to download materials that are ready to be used in the classroom.
