SnoPAC - Thunder Bay's Snowmobile Policing Advisory Committee
The SnoPAC Mandate
To promote awareness, education and enforcement of safe snowmobiling throughout Northwestern Ontario.
Community safety concerns have arisen from:
- Rapid growth in young people and families operating snowmobiles
- Increase in reported injuries and fatalities
- Limited knowledge of snowmobile policies and laws
What does SnoPAC do to address these concerns?
- Identifies and resolves recurring regional problems or concerns associated with snowmobiling
- Acts as a resource to communities and concerned citizens
- Recommends safety action to police, community policing committees, snowmobile clubs, municipal councils
- Emphasizes injury prevention, safety awareness and crime prevention
- Educates about the risks of aggressive operations and use of alcohol
- Sponsors information campaigns, workshops, special events
- Promotes responsible alcohol service by licensed facilities
SnoPAC Accomplishments
Public Education
- Production of 6 videos for PSA's and education on snowmobile safety topics such as ice safety, riding on train tracks, riding too fast, riding in the ditch, riding with intoxicated and stealing trail signs. To order a copy of the videos for yourself contact: judi.marton@tbdhu.com
- Sled Smart media conference and presentation on thin ice safety in 2002
- Production of three print ads regularly inserted into snowmobile tabloids
