Public Health nurses from the Sexual Health Program at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit will be offering presentations to all grade 7 & 8 classes on Healthy Sexuality and Sexually Transmitted Infections.
A copy of the resoruce document "Elementary Sexual Health Manual: A Guide for Teachers" can be downloaded here.
This program focuses on the physical, emotional and developmental aspects of sexuality and is in keeping with the Ontario Curriculum guidelines.
Some of the topics covered include:
- sexuality
- decision making
- consequences of sexual activity
- coping with peer pressure
- assertive communication
- sexually transmitted infections
- sources of support
Grade 9 presentations will be provided upon request and focus on decision making regarding sexual activity and contraception.

Counselling Services
Our Sexual Health Clinics offer counseling services regarding birth control methods, pregnancy options, sexually tranmitted infection and prevention, and pre and post test HIV counseling and referrals to appropriate agencies.
