Contact tracing is an important part of infectious disease control. A public health nurse ensures that partners of people with a sexually transmitted infections are tested and treated.

They may simply encourage the client to bring in all partners or they may take the partners names and addresses and then take the responsibility to contact them immediately or after giving the client a chance to do so.

This process is done confidentially in that no information is relased to the contact about the individual that has named them.
