  • Some are easily cured, but others can not be cured
  • Those that can not be cured, can be helped with medication
  • Some Sexually Transmitted Infections can have serious effects on your health and have lifelong consequences

What are my chances of having a Sexually Transmitted Infection?

You may have an Sexually Transmitted Infection if:

  • You had unprotected sex
  • You experienced condom failure
  • Your partner has a Sexually Transmitted Infection
  • You have a new sex partner
  • You or your partner uses injection drugs
  • You have been named as a contact of a Sexually Transmitted Infection

Do I have a Sexually Transmitted Infection?

You may have a Sexually Transmitted Infection and have few or no symptoms at all. Or you may have some of these symptoms:

  • Discharge from the vagina or penis which is heavier than usual
  • Burning feeling when you urinate
  • Sores, bumps or rashes in the genital and/or bum area
  • Itchy genitals
  • Pain with intercourse

If you are having sex and have one or some of these symptoms, see a doctor.

Remember, many people have no symptoms even though they have a Sexually Transmitted Infection. The only way to be sure you do not have a Sexually Transmitted Infection is to get tested.
