Breastfeeding Friendly Places

What is a Breastfeeding Friendly Place?

  •  A place that has friendly staff who welcome women to breastfeed and who do not ask women to stop nursing or go somewhere like the washroom to feed.
  •  A decal or sticker is clearly displayed that states “Breastfeeding Friendly” or “you are welcome to breastfeed here” showing their support for breastfeeding mothers
  • This campaign was initially developed by Health Canada and La Leche League to promote support for breastfeeding mothers in public.

Breastfeeding Rights...Good to Know

  • You have the right to breastfeed a child in public areas.
  • No one should prevent you from nursing your child because you are in a public area.
  • No one should ask you to cover up, disturb you or ask you to move to another area that is more discreet.

For more information about your rights and breastfeeding visit The Ontario Human Rights Commission at www.ohrc.on.ca or call 1-800-387-9080.
