COVID-19: Funerals and Cemeteries

In accordance with the order issued by the Government of Ontario on March 28, 2020 that restricts public gatherings, funerals are permitted to proceed with a limit of up to 10 people at one time, including clergy members.

Guests attending a funeral service should follow general infection prevention and control measures, including not attending if they are feeling sick or if they are in self-isolation, following proper hand washing practices, cough etiquette, and maintaining a physical distance of 2 metres.

The Ministry of Health has published Guidance for Funeral and Bereavement Services during COVID-19.

In Thunder Bay, Mountain View and St. Patrick’s Cemeteries are open to the public daily, a half hour before dawn to a half hour before dusk, year round. Visitors cannot use amenities within the cemetery including water taps and benches at this time.

Administration building access is by appointment only. For appointments call (807) 625-3014 (Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).

Visitors to any cemetery in the Thunder Bay District are encouraged to maintain a safe physical distance of at least two metres apart from others.
