Labour Disruption

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) would like to provide the following update regarding the current labour disruption with its public health nurses – members of Ontario Nurses’ Association:

"Thunder Bay District Health Unit is deeply disappointed with the latest proposal presented by the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) on October 29, 2018.

Throughout the negotiation process, Thunder Bay District Health Unit has remained committed to reaching an agreement that is fair and reasonable while recognizing the financial constraints of publicly funded organizations.

Following the latest monetary proposal from ONA, it is clear that both parties have not come closer, but in fact, are now further apart with increased demands compared to the proposal presented by ONA at the end of mediation on October 15, 2018.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is open to further discussions with the Association and remains optimistic that a settlement can be reached in the near future.

At this time, Thunder Bay District Health Unit is focused on minimizing the impacts of the ongoing labour disruption on the general public. We are working to deliver essential public health programs and services with minimal delays or disruptions. Thunder Bay District Health Unit is taking every measure necessary to ensure the health and well-being of the people and communities we serve."
