Medical Officer of Health Officially Appointed for District of Thunder Bay

Dr. Janet DeMille, Medical Officer of Health

March 1, 2016 - The Board of Health for the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Janet DeMille to the position of Medical Officer of Health (MOH). The Minister of Health officially approved the appointment, effective February 29, 2016. 

Dr. DeMille has worked as a family physician within the District for over 10 years, including 5 years with the TBDHU’s clinical services.  She obtained her specialty certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada after completing postgraduate medical training in Public Health and Preventive Medicine through the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in 2012. She became the associate MOH in September 2012 and has been the acting MOH for the Thunder Bay District since July 2015.

“Dr. Janet DeMille is an ideal fit for the role with her passion and expertise in public health,” said Board of Health chair Joe Virdiramo. “Dr. DeMille has lived and worked in our District communities and understands the unique challenges of delivering public health programs and services in Northern Ontario.  She is excited to accept the role of leading Public Health in the District of Thunder Bay.”
