Mental Health Support

Starting school or going back can be hard during ‘normal’ times, add a pandemic and things can very quickly become even more complicated. Educators can be worried, parents nervous, and students scared while dealing with feelings related to both starting school and COVID-19 all at the same time. On the other hand, educators may be excited to get back to the classroom, parents happy to see their kids back in school and students happy to see their friends again.

There is no right or wrong way to feel during this time. It can be confusing, frustrating, scary, and exciting all at the same time. At any time, if you feel like you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please visit Mental Health Support to learn about options for mental health supports and services in Thunder Bay and the district.

School Mental Health Ontario has developed some great resources to help you and your family transition back to school – however that looks for your family. They provide some usable ideas to help support your children and their mental health, how to talk to them about their feelings about returning to the class or trying a new method of learning, and additional resources.

Check out their tip sheet for more information.
