Some routine vaccines are required by law for school attendance.
Students may be missing one or more of the following vaccines due to challenges accessing primary care providers during the COVID-19 pandemic. More information on when Tdap-IPV and MMRV is available; see Ontario's Routine Immunization Schedule (gov.on.ca).
- Tdap -IPV vaccine – This combined vaccine protects against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis and polio.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (MMRV) vaccine – This combined vaccine protects against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella.
- COVID-19 vaccine - Children 5 to 11 years of age are eligible to receive two doses of COVID-19 vaccine; see TBDHU.COM/youthvaccine for more information.

Access your account, or learn more they don’t have one, by visiting TBDHU.COM/immunizations OR contact the TBDHU at 625-5900. NEED TO SUBMIT RECORDS – ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT IF STARTING SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER:
- TBDHU does not have access to records of vaccines given by community providers unless the provider or the parent submits them to the vaccine program.
- Ask your provider if this is part of their practice. If not, families can submit the vaccine record through their child’s ICON account or by fax (807-625-4828) or mail (999 Balmoral Street, Thunder Bay, ON P7B 6E7).
- Having an accurate history of a child’s vaccines is important to ensure TBDHU staff can accurately assess their records, especially if they are starting school in September 2022.
The following vaccines are available to students entering Grade 7 in September of 2022 to give them a head start as soon as they become eligible. These vaccines will be available to students through school-based clinics during the 2022-2023 school year but we encourage families to take advantage of the wide range of availability through the summer (e.g. student may be away/ill on the day of the school clinic).
- Meningococcal conjugate (Men-C-ACYW) vaccine (1 dose needed); eligible until the vaccine is received.
- Human papillomavirus (HPV-9) vaccine (2 doses); eligible until August 31 of their Grade 12 year; those who start the series at age 15 and older require 3 doses to complete.
- Hepatitis B vaccine (2 doses needed); students are eligible until August 31 of their Grade 12 year; those who start the series at 16 and older require 3 doses to complete.
- COVID-19 vaccine; those 12 and older are eligible to receive two doses plus a booster of COVID-19 vaccine; visit TBDHU.COM/youthvaccine for details.
HOW TO GET VACCINATED THIS SUMMER
- Walk-in to the CLE Coliseum clinic during operational hours (www.tbdhu.com/covidclinics) as both school based and COVID-19 vaccines will be available throughout the summer at this location.
- Pop-up clinics will be planned for the summer months so please check the website often for updates (www.tbdhu.com/covidclinics). Vaccines offered at school will be offered at all COVID-19 pop-ups.
- Make an appointment or walk-in during the last three weeks of August. If you make an appointment you will receive a reminder email before your scheduled date and time. These appointments/walk-in visits are available August 17-19, August 22-26 and August 29-September 2 (Mon/Wed/Fri from 9am to 4pm and Tues/Thurs from 11:30 to 6:30pm).
Students in Grades 8 through 12 in September of 2022 may be missing one or more of the following vaccines if they missed the clinic at their school during the 2021-2022 school year.
- Meningococcal conjugate (Men-C-ACYW) vaccine (1 dose needed); students are eligible until the vaccine is received.
- Human papillomavirus (HPV-9) vaccine (2 doses needed); students are eligible to complete the series until August 31 of their Grade 12 year; those who start the series at age 15 and older require 3 doses to complete.

TBDHU is currently planning school visits to provide vaccines during the 2022-2023 school year and the website will be updated once the information is available.
