TBDHU Offering Routine and Catch-up Vaccines for Children, Youth and Young Adults

July 5, 2023 - TBDHU is offering vaccine clinics throughout the summer months to encourage receiving and catching up on recommended routine vaccines that are normally given in infancy, SK/Grade 1, Grade 7 and 8 and high school. In July and August, walk-in clinics are scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am-3 pm at TBDHU’s main office at 999 Balmoral Street in Thunder Bay. These clinics will offer routine vaccines to anyone in the following groups:

Blue-Green Algae Identified at Surprise Lake

June 21, 2023 - The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae in a water sample collected June 19 from Surprise Lake. The MECP is conducting toxin analysis on the water sample. However, it is important to remember that water should be avoided whenever a blue-green algae bloom is present, and for about 2 weeks after it has dissipated, regardless of the toxin analysis results because blue-green algae can turn toxin production on and off in response to environmental conditions.

June 12, 2023 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and St. Joseph’s Care Group confirm that the respiratory outbreak (COVID-19) at St. Joseph’s Hospital, on 3 South - Rehabilitative Care Services, located at 35 Algoma St. N, has been declared over. All outbreak restrictions have been lifted.

TBDHU recommends the public refrain from visiting hospitals, long-term care facilities and other high risk settings when feeling unwell to avoid spreading infections to those most vulnerable and at higher risk of severe outcomes.
