COVID-19 Outbreak Declared Over at Pioneer Ridge

December 29, 2020 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and the City of Thunder Bay announce that the outbreak at the Pioneer Ridge long-term care home in Thunder Bay is now over.

On December 18, 2020, a staff member at Pioneer Ridge tested positive for COVID-19 and an outbreak was declared the following morning. Subsequently, an additional staff member also tested positive for COVID-19. Consistent with provincial guidelines, an outbreak is declared for COVID-19 in a long-term care home when one staff or resident is found to be positive for COVID-19.

Prior to the outbreak, significant measures were already in place at Pioneer Ridge to reduce the likelihood of transmission of the virus within the facility. Expanded precautions, were implemented for the duration of the outbreak. No other staff or residents at Pioneer Ridge have tested positive for COVID-19, as confirmed through follow-up surveillance testing.
