July 5, 2023 - TBDHU is offering vaccine clinics throughout the summer months to encourage receiving and catching up on recommended routine vaccines that are normally given in infancy, SK/Grade 1, Grade 7 and 8 and high school. In July and August, walk-in clinics are scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am-3 pm at TBDHU’s main office at 999 Balmoral Street in Thunder Bay. These clinics will offer routine vaccines to anyone in the following groups:

June 21, 2023 - The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae in a water sample collected June 19 from Surprise Lake. The MECP is conducting toxin analysis on the water sample. However, it is important to remember that water should be avoided whenever a blue-green algae bloom is present, and for about 2 weeks after it has dissipated, regardless of the toxin analysis results because blue-green algae can turn toxin production on and off in response to environmental conditions.

June 12, 2023 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and St. Joseph’s Care Group confirm that the respiratory outbreak (COVID-19) at St. Joseph’s Hospital, on 3 South - Rehabilitative Care Services, located at 35 Algoma St. N, has been declared over. All outbreak restrictions have been lifted.

TBDHU recommends the public refrain from visiting hospitals, long-term care facilities and other high risk settings when feeling unwell to avoid spreading infections to those most vulnerable and at higher risk of severe outcomes.

June 6, 2023 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and St. Joseph’s Care Group confirm that a respiratory outbreak (COVID-19) has been declared at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Thunder Bay. The outbreak is restricted to 3 South, Rehabilitative Care Services.

There are restrictions on admissions, transfers, discharges, social activities and visitation in the affected area of the facility until further notice. Please call the facility for more information.

May 12, 2023 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and St. Joseph's Care Group Hogarth Riverview Manor, confirm that the gastrointestinal outbreak on 3 South - Daisy Resident Home Area, located at 300 Lillie St. N, has been declared over. All restrictions have been lifted. 

The Health Unit is urging people to stay at home and refrain from visiting hospitals and long-term care facilities when feeling unwell to avoid spreading infections to those most vulnerable: young infants and children, the elderly and those with other chronic illnesses.

May 11, 2023 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and The City of Thunder Bay Jasper Place, located at 1200 Jasper Drive, confirm that a respiratory outbreak (COVID-19) has been declared facility wide, as of May 10, 2023. There are restrictions on admissions, transfers, discharges, social activities and visitation in the affected area of the facility until further notice. All admissions, transfers, discharges and social activities have been cancelled on the affected unit until further notice. Visitors are restricted to family members and caregivers only.
