COVID-19 Outbreak Declared Over at Mahmowenchike Family Development Centre (St. Ann)

December 14, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) confirms that the outbreak of COVID-19 at Mahmowenchike Family Development Centre (St. Ann School location) in Thunder Bay is now over.

There is no evidence that any additional spread of the virus has occurred in the child care centre at this time. Note that all individuals that were identified by public health as a positive case of COVID-19 or close contact will be required to stay home and not return to the child care centre until cleared by public health.

December 13, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board confirm that the outbreak of COVID-19 at St. Ignatius High School in Thunder Bay is now over.

There is no evidence that any additional spread of the virus has occurred in the school or in any related settings at this time. Note that all individuals that were identified by public health as a positive case of COVID-19 or close contact will be required to stay home and not return to the school setting until cleared by public health.

December 9, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) confirms that the outbreak of COVID-19 at Step by Step Child Care Centre (Arthur St.) in Thunder Bay is now over.

No additional cases of COVID-19 have been identified and there is no evidence of additional spread within the child care setting.

I recognize that these are challenging times for everyone, and that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused much upheaval in our children’s lives. School disruptions and canceled activities have had an impact on the overall well-being of kids and their families. I know that we are all eager for everything to settle down and be closer to normal.

Proof of vaccination requirements extended to organized sports for all those 12 years of age and older

December 9, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is revising the Letter of Instruction (LOI) to Owners/Operators of facilities where organized sports are played and/or practiced which was originally issued on September 29, 2021. Effective 12:01 a.m. January 31, 2022, anyone 12 years of age and older across the TBDHU catchment area who actively participates in organized sports (not just coaches, officials, etc.) will be required to provide proof of vaccination unless a medical exemption applies.
