Lyme Disease Positive Black-Legged Ticks on the Rise in Thunder Bay District
August 17, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is reporting that 62.5 percent of black-legged ticks (BLTs, formerly known as deer ticks) collected via active surveillance this year have tested positive for the Lyme disease bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi.
This is a significant increase in comparison to previous years where approximately 10 percent of BLTs tested positive for Borrelia.
