One clinics: TBDHU hosts one school-based vaccine clinic at every high school each school year.
Easy and convenient option: These clinics provide an easy and convenient option for students to be immunized for the vaccines required under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA).
Consent and schedule: See the tabs below for more information on the recommended vaccines as well as the consent process and a schedule of school clinics based on where the student attends school.
Consent Packages Mailed Home
Records assessed: TBDHU will assess the vaccine records of every registered student to determine if they are missing any vaccines recommended for their age.
Consent package mailed home: If a student is assessed as missing one of more recommended vaccines, a consent package will be mailed home. The package will list the missing vaccines and will include a link to the online consent form for parents to submit.
Review and submit online by the deadline: The consent form is only available online. Those who cannot complete the online version can give verbal consent over the phone by calling 807-625-5908. Submitting before the deadline gives TBDHU staff time to prepare for the school clinic.
Missed the return date? Parents/guardians can still complete the consent online up to two (2) days before the clinic OR give verbal consent over the phone until the day before the clinic by calling 807-625-5908. Find the dates of each clinic in the schedule section below.
Students can provide consent
No minimum age of consent: There is no minimum age of consent for medical treatment in Ontario in accordance with Ontario’s Health Care Consent Act (HCCA).
Parental consent is encouraged: Consent of a parent or guardian is encouraged, but if a high school student attends a school clinic and requests a vaccination, TBDHU nurses will use their professional judgment, taking into account the circumstances and the student’s condition, to determine whether the student can understand and appreciate the information relevant to making an informed decision.
Counselling provided: Informed consent counseling will include information on each vaccine including the risks and benefits, side effects, understanding the risks if not vaccinated, understanding the ability to withdraw consent at any time, confirming how long the consent is valid for, and an opportunity to ask any questions and be provided with answers.
Dates can change: The dates below are subject change, please check back before your child's scheduled clinic to confirm.
