Northwestern Ontario typically gets a lot of snow. Wintery conditions with layers of snow and ice underfoot can be tricky to navigate, even if there is sand or salt put down. Prevent a serious fall by using the walking style of a penguin.
Walk like a Penguin means:
- Feet wide
- Knees bent
- Arms out for balance
- Take shorter steps
- Wear gloves/mitts
- Dress warm
- Go slow!
Other Tips for Winter Safety
- Use railings when walking up and down stairs
- Wear boots with good grips while walking outdoors
- Salt or sand walkways at your home or get someone to help you.
- Check the weather before heading out and plan accordingly!
