Walk Like a Penguin - Prevent Winter Trips, Slips and Falls!

Northwestern Ontario typically gets a lot of snow. Wintery conditions with layers of snow and ice underfoot can be tricky to navigate, even if there is sand or salt put down. Prevent a serious fall by using the walking style of a penguin.

Walk like a Penguin means:

  • Feet wide
  • Knees bent
  • Arms out for balance
  • Take shorter steps
  • Wear gloves/mitts
  • Dress warm
  • Go slow!

Other Tips for Winter Safety

  • Use railings when walking up and down stairs
  • Wear boots with good grips while walking outdoors
  • Salt or sand walkways at your home or get someone to help you.
  • Check the weather before heading out and plan accordingly!
