COVID-19: Businesses and Workplaces

On April 3, 2020, Ontario updated the list of essential businesses that can remain open. The restrictions are aimed at further reducing contact between people and stopping the spread of COVID-19. See Closure of Non-Essential Services (below) for more details. 


Businesses who have questions about closures of at-risk workplaces or how emergency measures impact their business or employment can call the Stop the Spread Business Information Line at 1-888-444-3659. Help is available 8:30 a.m.― 9:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8:30 a.m.— 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday


To prevent the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus, it is vitally important for workplaces to take proactive steps to protect our community. We all have a role to play in keeping employees, clients, customers and volunteers safe and healthy.


Infection Prevention and Control Measures for Workplaces

Employers need to be proactive to protect their employee and clients to minimize the risk of COVID-19 spreading. Follow official public health and medical advice closely and advise employees on what to do if they think they may have caught the virus or are at risk of contracting it.

Communicate clearly to employees that the following 5 Infection Prevention and Control Measures (screening, personal hygiene, cough etiquette, environmental cleaning, and physical distancing) should be used together for optimal effectiveness in stopping the spread of COVID-19/“flattening the curve”:
