Triple P Seminar Series

Upcoming Seminars

The next seminar series runs on Thursdays in November from 5:30 - 7:30pm.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit offers a Triple P Positive Parenting Seminar Series for parents and caregivers of children ages 2 to 12. Triple P is designed for parents who are generally coping well but may have questions or concerns about their child’s behaviour, development or everyday parenting challenges.

The series provides an introduction to the basics of positive parenting and practical strategies that parents and caregivers can use in everyday family life. Children’s behaviour changes as they grow, and it is normal for parents to have questions or encounter challenging moments along the way. The seminar series provides an opportunity to build knowledge, skills and confidence in responding to children’s needs.

Throughout the series, parents and caregivers will learn how to:

  • Understand children’s behaviour and the factors that influence how children respond in different situations.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and cooperation using practical, positive strategies.
  • Respond confidently to challenging behaviours such as aggression, while supporting children when they are having difficulty cooperating, following directions or managing their behaviour.
  • Support children’s emotional well-being when they are experiencing emotions or challenges such as sadness, anxiety, separation difficulties or difficulties getting along with other children.
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with their children and help children develop important social and emotional skills.
  • Help children develop healthy screen-time habits by establishing routines, boundaries and expectations around screen use.

The series consists of four 90-minute seminars:

The Power of Positive Parenting - An introduction to positive parenting strategies that encourage children’s development, strengthen parent-child relationships and help parents respond to common parenting challenges.

Raising Confident, Capable Children - Practical strategies for encouraging children to develop independence, confidence, problem-solving skills and positive relationships with others.

Raising Resilient Children - Strategies to help children manage their emotions, cope with everyday challenges and develop skills that support resilience.

Helping Children Learn Healthy Screentime Habits - Practical strategies for helping children develop healthy relationships with screens and technology, including setting routines, boundaries and expectations around screen use.

The Triple P Seminar Series will help you feel more confident and capable as a parent or caregiver, with practical strategies you can use to support your child’s behaviour, emotional well-being and development.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend together whenever possible.
