Enhancing and Implementing the Fourth R Program

April 17, 2019 - The TBDHU is grateful to have received $995,000 in funding, over 5 years from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to implement the Youth Violence Prevention Project through-out Thunder Bay and District. This exciting initiative provides the capacity to implement a school-based, skills-focused, healthy relationship program aimed at preventing teen violence and related risk behaviours for Grade 7-9 youth in our region.

April 12, 2019 - The outbreak of respiratory illness at Chartwell Thunder Bay Retirement Residence, Glacier Ridge, located at 1261 Jasper Drive, has been declared over. All restrictions have been lifted.

April 9, 2019 - Officials at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and Southbridge Pinewood Court located at 2625 Walsh Street East have declared a respiratory outbreak affecting the Kingfisher Unit only at this time.

Admissions, transfers, discharges and social activities have been cancelled for this unit until further notice. Visitors to this unit are restricted to family members and caregivers only, so please call the facility for more information.

World Tuberculosis Day 2019

March 24, 2019 - World Tuberculosis Day 2019 Each year on March 24, World Tuberculosis Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about Tuberculosis and its impacts. This is particularly relevant this year – one year after a Tuberculosis outbreak was declared in the City of Thunder Bay.

Since the beginning of March 2018, the outbreak investigation identified 11 cases of active tuberculosis in the community, and many cases of latent tuberculosis, with most cases occurring in individuals who lacked adequate housing.
