Our Mission
The Thunder Bay Perinatal Coalition is committed to fostering a culture and environment honouring the perinatal individual and their family by actively advocating and promoting collaborative services to enhance outcomes and facilitate information sharing within our community.
Our Values
- The perinatal period directly impacts a child’s life and the health and well-being of families.
- All pregnant and postpartum persons, regardless of their background, socioeconomic status, or geographic location, should have equitable access to the services, support, and information they need.
- We are committed to addressing the systemic barriers—such as socioeconomic inequality, discrimination, lack of accessible healthcare, and geographic isolation—that prevent many individuals and families from receiving the care they deserve.
- Through advocacy, education, and collaboration, we strive to ensure that every person has the opportunity to thrive during this critical period, with dignity, respect, and without facing barriers to care.
Our Objectives
- To facilitate inter agency cooperation and collaboration.
- To identify and help pregnant women and expectant families become aware of available services and resources and how to access them.
- To facilitate the dissemination of information pertinent to pregnant women and expectant families.
- To explore issues and address current issues that impact pregnant women and expectant families.
- To advocate for the inclusion of pregnant women and expectant families in all early years programs and services.
- To address current issues using Evidence-Based Practice.

Perinatal Health and Wellness Fair
Our Perinatal Health & Wellness Fair is a community-focused event dedicated to supporting individuals and families through pregnancy, birth, and early parenting. This free event brings together a wide range of local health professionals, service providers, and support organizations to share valuable resources, answer questions, and connect families with the supports they need to flourish in the early years!
The Big Latch
Our BIG Latch event coincides with National Breastfeeding Week to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding/chestfeeding and to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding in our community. Caregivers and their babies are invited to gather together at a specific time to “latch on” and celebrate breastfeeding, provide peer support, and raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding.
All infant feeding methods are welcome!
Wave of Light
Wave of Light is a global event held annually on October 15th to honor and remember babies who have died in pregnancy or infancy. It involves families and individuals lighting candles at 7 pm local time to create a symbolic wave of light across the globe. This tradition is a way to commemorate Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month and provide support to those who have experienced such losses.
